Kelly O’Connor McNees: First book good, second book out now

Well, more than two years after it was published (hey, I was busy helping bring a new life into the world), the other night I finally finished The Lost Summer of Louisa May Alcott, by our good friend Kelly. I highly recommend it, especially if you happen to be a Little Women fan (and I know a lot of you are). Kelly does a wonderful job of capturing Alcott’s voice, and the result is not just a tribute to her most famous book, but also a story that sheds light on the real family that inspired it and the time in which they lived. So put on your heavy flannel swimming dress, and your swimming boots, and dive right in.

Or you could save it for later and pick up a copy of Kelly’s new book, In Need of a Good Wife, which of course comes out today. I’ve heard it described as “a cross between Fifty Shades of GreyThe Hunger Games, and Shakespeare” (it was either Kirkus Reviews that described it that way, or me, talking to myself a few seconds ago), so I would say you are in for a treat.
